Hongcun, with a history of about 900 years, is an extremely beautiful village in Anhui Province.
Located under Mount Huang, the village has kept the major Chinese styles from ancient times. It’s
also one of UNESCO(聯(lián)合國教科文組織)World Heritage Sites(世界文化遺產(chǎn)).
Wander along the old stone streets and lanes, and you will feel like travelling back in time. All
the houses with grey roofs and white walls were built during the Ming and Qing Dynasties. On the

Step into a tea house to take a rest. A piece of classical music, played by guqin, fills up the house
and floats into your hearts, as if you hear birds singing, pines(松)whistling(吹口哨)and rivers
flowing. You will be lost in a world, full of peace and pleasure. Holding the tea cup, some lines of
poems on its out layer(層)will come into your sight:
No dust is rising on the road, wet with morning rain,
The willows(柳樹)by the hotel look so fresh and green.
Walk out of the tea house, and go to the open-air theatre. The actors with coloured make-ups(臉繪)
are performing on the stage in special clothes. It’s a local opera called Huangmei Opera and different from

Passage A
Every year on 15th October, over 200 million people around the world take part in Global
Handwashing Day. But why do we have a day for something we do all the time? Well, research shows
that not enough people often wash their hands with soap. Experts believe that this leads to the deaths
of millions of people every year.
Sidibe, a public health expert says soap is the most beautiful invention in public health. Washing
your hands with soap can have a huge impact on reducing(減少)the spread of diseases. Handwashing
with soap prevents babies from getting ill and keeps children healthy and in school.
However, washing hands with soap does not happen as often as you might think. This is partly
because there aren’t enough resources(資源)in poorer countries, but it’s also because for many
people, handwashing is simply not part of their everyday life. It’s not easy to get people to change
habits they learned in early childhood - but this is what Global Handwashing Day wants to do.
In 2008, the Indian cricket(板球)team joined around 100 million Indian schoolchildren in washing
their hands to promote(促進)the first ever Global Handwashing Day. Every year since then, many

according to the report.

more about animals and how to protect them. Be friendly to the people around you. Try to think of
others, not only yourself.

Yang Nan, 17, was happy to move to her new home in a northern area of Beijing. She was told that
her neighborhood used to be farmland planted with vegetables, corn and wheat. But looking at the new road,
beautiful park and supermarkets, Yang couldn’t see any sign that food was once grown there.
Yang is not alone. In recent years, many Chinese people have moved into new houses in country
areas. Tall buildings have been built everywhere in the suburbs. The crops and fruit trees are no more.
But these changes have caused problems too, warns Gan Zangchun, an official(官員)at the Ministry
of Land and Resources(國土資源部).
“Chinese cities are growing fast. This has made the area for farmland much smaller. This is really
bad for the country’s ability to grow food, not to mention the lives of farmers,”said Gan last Monday.
The country needs farmland to grow food for the people of China. But the recent rise in house
prices has made selling land a good business. A lot of land has been used to build new houses for sale.
Pollution, which makes land useless, is another reason for the big drop in China’s farmland. About
2.67 million square kilometers of land in China have been polluted and turned into desert.
The government wants China to have at least 120 million hectares(公頃)of farmland. But there
are only about 121.8 million hectares left.“It will be really difficult to reach the goal”, Gan said. He
said that the government would fight illegal(非法的)land use and stop farmland from becoming
desert.

Each Chinese month starts on the day of the new moon. And the full moon comes on the 15th day

lunar year, there is a big family dinner. All members of the family except married daughters try to be
present at this meal, even they have to travel many miles to reach the home of their parents. Old
quarrels are forgotten, and everybody is happy. After the dinner, the children keep awake to welcome

Passage C
Some people think only school children do not agree with their parents, however, it is not true.
Communication is a problem for parents and children of all ages. If it’s hard for you to communicate
with your parents, don’t worry about it. Here are some advice for you to bridge the generation gap(代溝).
Don’t argue(爭辯)with your parents. Don’t get to your parents when you are angry. Your parents
probably won’t consider your ideas if you are shouting at them. And you can’t express yourself well if
you are angry. Go someplace to cool off. Make sure you understand why you are unhappy. Then think
about what you want to say to your parents. If you don’t think you can speak to them at the moment,
try writing a letter.
Try to reach a compromise(和解). Perhaps you and your parents disagree on something. You can
keep your disagreement and try your best to accept each other. Li Jun’s mother didn’t agree with him
about buying a motorcycle. They argued over it. But they finally came to a compromise. Li Jun bought
the motorcycle, but only drove it on certain days.
Of course, your parents might refuse to compromise on something. In these situations, it is
especially important to show love and respect(尊敬)to them. Showing respect will keep your relationship
strong.
Talk about your values. The values of your parents are probably different from those of your own.
Tell your parents what you care about, and why. Understanding your values might help them see your
purposes in life.
A good relationship with your parents can make you a better and happier person. It is worth
having a try!
( )26. According to the passage, who have a communication problem?
A. Parents and other people. B. Only school kids and their parents.
C. Teachers and their students. D. Parents and children of all ages.

A. 5. B. 4. C. 3. D. 2.
( )28. The underlined word“bridge”in the passage means“__________”.
A. 建立 B. 消除 C. 通過 D. 到達
( )29. If the values of your parents are different from those of yours, you’d better __________.
