Tom was a lazy boy. He hated going to school, studying and doing homework. One day, when Gluebeard, the famous captain, came to town in search of young sailors, Tom made sure he was the first in line.
On Gluebeard's ship, every minute of every day was spent looking for treasure and if anyone was found reading or studying, they would be locked in a small room full of mice. And so Tom began his life as a treasure-hunting sailor, but it wasn't easy. They hardly had enough money to buy food and clothes.
One day, someone on the ship stole the only food Tom had left. Two days later, Tom was so hungry that he secretly went to the room full of mice to find one and eat it. But when he entered, he couldn't find a single mouse. He did find a secret room, one that was full of books! Suddenly he heard some voices and he hid away to listen. Tom was very angry. He heard Gluebeard laugh at how stupid the crew(全體船員)were, how easy it was to fool them, and how foolish and poor they would always be after leaving their studies behind.
From that day on, Tom waited every night until everyone was asleep. Then he visited the room full of books, where he spent his time studying all kinds of books. Soon he found that learning about so many things gave him better ideas.
After a few years, he left Gluebeard’s ship, used the money he made to buy his own boat and found his own crew. Unlike Gluebeard, however, he only chose people who studied. And instead of fooling them, he encouraged them to search for treasure with him. With so many clever people, they found new treasure much faster.

Growing plants in space seems inpossible. but scientists have worked on it for years. Plants ca rovide fresh fod and air for astronauts during long space trips. Recenty. a team of researcher uccessfully grew vegetables on the lntemational Space Station ( ISS).
Scientists began by puting small seeds in special boxes. These boxes had LED lights to mimic sunlighi and a system to control temperature. The astronauts watered the plants carefully and watchedl them grov. After six weeks, the vegelables were ready to eat. The astronauts said they tasted just like Earth-grown vegetables!
But space gardening is not easy. In low gravity(重力),water does not move dlown. It forms small balls that stay on top. These are bad for the plants. Scientists solved this problem by using a special watering system that directs water to the bottom part of the plants. Another problem is no natural sunlight. The ISS goes around the earth every 90 minutes, so plants face quick changes between light and dark. LED lights were used to help the plants grow well.
Why is this important? On future trips to Mars or the Moon, astronauts may need to grow food. Space gardening also helps scientists learn how plants live in hard conditions. This study could even help farming on Earth, especially in dry or poor soil areas.

Without the sun,no living things can live on the earth. 36. At the same time, it helps your body get vitamin(維生素) D. However, you may feel tired after spendling long hours in the sun.37. Here are some reasons to explain it.
Thefist one is that your body doesn't want to heat up.38. If you feel too tired in the sun, it must be a sign that it's time to take a rest and cool down.
39. When you sweat(出汗)a lot, your body loses water. As a result, your blood becomes thicker, which makes it hard for your heart to send blood. And it means that less 0_{z} will be sent to your body. The low level of \mathbf{0}_{2} will make you feel even more tired. This is also why you should drink water after doing sports.
Another reason is sunburn, which is your skin’s way to fight against the UV(紫外線(xiàn))in the sunlight.40. And this is also tiring for your body. So, staying in the sun too long easily leads to tiredness.
As you can see, the sun is both your enemy and friend. Warming light is good for you, but tiredness shows that your body has too much sunlight in the day.
根據(jù)短文內(nèi)容,將下面方框內(nèi)的句子還原到文中空白處,使短文內(nèi)容完整、通順。(每個(gè)選項(xiàng)只能用一次)

To improve students? health and lower students pressure, our country made some rules. Here are some of them.
Firstly, homework for middle school students should take no more than 90 minutes. They finish most of written homework at school so that after school they spend only a little time finishing the rest. Some students can still go to sleep on time even though they don't finish their homework until bedtime. Then they will have more time to relax. Secondly, mobile phones mustn't be brought to class because students are easily absent-minded(心不在焉的) from the lesson. Students must control the time on electronic products to protect their eyesight. They shouldn't lose themselves in the Internet. Thirdly, students are expected to listen carefully and go over lessons in time so that they can master the right methods of learning. Fourthly, parents should ofen communicate with their children, pay attention to their feelings and help them develop good learning and life habits.
In a word, these rules are helpful to middle school students. If they follow the rules, they can improve their study and health.

January 20, 2025, a Chinese tech company named DeepSeek made a new AI called DeepSeek-R1. This smart program can solve math problems, write code, and answer questions like top models such as Open AI's GPT 4.0, but it costs much less to build. The team spent only 5.58$ million (1/70 of Open

AI's cost) and used 2,048 computer chips for two months. This shows that good ideas can beat big money.
DeepSeek-R1 learns by trying many times and getting better, like how students practice maths. Other Als need lots of prepared examples, but Rl improves by itself. For example, in a global maths test, it got 79.8% right, slightly higher than Open Al's model. A simple version of R1 can even run on ow-cost computers, helping schools and small companies.
DeepSeek-R1 is free to use and change. On its first day online, more than 19 ,000 programmers worldwide started projects to study it. A German scientist said experiments with Rl cost 10 instead of300 with other AIs. Even Meta (a famous U. S. tech company) top scientist said, “This kind of free AI could change the world."
U.S. tech companies are worried. Meta plans to spend 65$ billion more on AI research. Experts say China is catching up fast. A report in Nature magazine called R1 a “big step forward", proving that smart ideas beat expensive tools.
As a DeepSeek engineer said, “We want AI to be a friend, not something only rich people can use. With Rl, China shows the world that great things come from new ideas and hard work, not just money."

As we know, eating vegetables is good for us. Why do some people like them but others don't? A new study has found that other people's likes and dislikes could be a reason. According to the research, people who eat vegetables and show a clear dislike for them can influence others.
People may make facial(面部的)expressions when eating. How does it affect a person watching them?A team of scientists in the UK did a study. They asked more than 200 young women to watch videos of other adults eating broccoli(西蘭花).The people in the videos had different expressions while eating. They would smile, seem neutral (neither happy nor sad),or look disgusted.
The study found that when people in the videos look disgusted while eating brocoli, people watching them began to like broccoli less. The opposite was not true, however. When someone had a smile while eating broccoli, people watching them did not like broccoli more.
By watching others, humans learn which behaviors will be good for them. Scientists believe that people might avoid food that looks terrible. In this way, people can protect themselves from eating something bad or dangerous.
The research focused only on adults, but the team believe that the results could also work for children. This means, if children see their parents not enjoying certain foods, including vegetables, they might not want to eat them either.
How does the behavior of adults influence children’s choices of food? The team said they hope to understand more about it. This could help find ways to encourage children to eat more healthy foods. 根據(jù)短文內(nèi)容選擇最佳答案。

So, Indian people wash these body parts during their Water Festival to wash away their bad luck.

Boys and girls, let's do an experiment in today's lesson.
Things you need to prepare:

Water

Instructions :
(1) Fill the glass or jug about 2/3 full with water.
(2) Drop the egg carefully into the glass and watch it going down towards the bottom.
(3) Take the egg out and add about 5 spoons of salt. Test to see if your egg goes up.
(4) Add more salt if the egg is still at the bottom.
The science behind it :
Things go down in the water when they are denser(密度更大的) than the water. By adding salt, we make the water denser. Once the water is denser than the egg, it goes up.
You can also try other things to see if you have the same result.
Example in daily life:
The Dead Sea is the lowest lake in the world. The Dead Sea has a high concentration(濃度) of salt. So there is nothing living in the Dead Sea. As the experiment above, people can also float (漂?。?in it.But it is not good to float for a long time.

Imagine a tiny robot crawling(M) through your body, helping doctors with their work. It's not from a science novel. Doctors are now using robots to do operations(手f). This is because robots can do some work that doctors can't. The robots carry small cameras, which allow doctors to look inside patients’ bodies. The robots also have tiny scissors and other tools. “It's like having little hands inside the patients ,”" said Dr. Wang from a hospital in Beijing.
Here's how they work: The doctor makes a small cut in a patient. Then, the doctor puts the robot through the cut. Next, the doctor controls the robot to reach where it needs to go. Finally, with the help of the robot, the doctor looks inside the patient's body and begins to work.
(C)
The robots have many advantages for doctors and patients. They help cut medical costs and make difficult operations quicker and easier. They allow doctors to operate with less damage to patients’ bodies, too. This helps them to get over faster.
However, the robots aren't perfect. They can be expensive. What's more, they are just tools to help humans, and they must be used by skilled doctors.Even the best robots can't do everything that humans can do.
Scientists are working to make robots smarter. Someday, robots may do even more than expected for humans.

Hello, kids. Today we will learn some important rules for communication. Good communication is the secret of making friends and keeping friendship. So,let's start!
Listen with your ears and your heart. When someone is talking to you, give full attention to them. Look at them, nod your head, and listen with your ears and your heart. 36.
Think before you speak. Just like you look around before crossing the street, you need to think twice about something before you say it. Ask yourself, “Is it kind? Is it helpful?" 37. But if it's not, keep it to yourself.
Use your words, not your fists(拳頭). If you have a problem with someone, don't solve it with your fists.38. Your words can make a world of difference, while getting physical only makes things worse.
